Authorities have made a substantial drug seizure in the Flacq district following a carefully coordinated anti-narcotics operation, arresting a 46-year-old local driver and confiscating more than 3.6 kilograms of cannabis.
The operation, carried out on May 20th by officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU), was conducted with the tactical support of the MARCOS special forces and the Special Support Unit (SSU) β a deployment of resources that underscores the seriousness with which Mauritian law enforcement is approaching drug suppression in the region.
Officers executed a search warrant at the suspect's home in his absence. His 63-year-old mother was present during the search and was later released after questioning. Inside the property, investigators uncovered a sachet of cannabis alongside a bag containing 12 additional individually packed sachets, each holding a significant quantity of the drug. The total haul weighed in at 3.608 kilograms.
The suspect, a driver residing in the locality, subsequently presented himself at the ADSU office in Flacq, where he was formally arrested.
What stands out in this case is not only the volume of cannabis recovered β enough to suggest distribution rather than personal use β but also the pre-packaged nature of the find. The 12 individual sachets point to an organised supply operation, raising questions about the broader network potentially operating in the Flacq area, one of Mauritius's more densely populated eastern districts.
This arrest comes amid continued pressure from Mauritian authorities to crack down on drug trafficking across the island. The ADSU has been increasingly deploying multi-unit task forces for such operations, reflecting a strategic shift toward more coordinated and intelligence-led policing.
The case is now under investigation, and further developments are expected as authorities examine the full scope of the suspect's alleged activities.
