Anti-drug officers from the ADSU (Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit) moved swiftly on Tuesday, 15 September, raiding a private residence in Batterie-Cassée and arresting a 24-year-old unemployed man in connection with suspected drug dealing. During the search, officers seized multiple quantities of cannabis across several separate packages: a plastic bag containing 15 grams, another holding 5.56 grams, and two cylindrical plastic tubes with lids — one containing 1.23 grams and the other 1.08 grams. In total, officers recovered over 22 grams of cannabis from the premises. Also discovered was a piece of plastic concealing seven aluminium foil wraps containing heroin, with a combined weight of 0.65 grams. The presence of heroin alongside cannabis points to a mixed retail operation, a pattern increasingly flagged by Mauritian law enforcement in residential drug seizures. Perhaps most telling was the cash found on site: Rs 24,475 in banknotes, suspected by investigators to represent proceeds from drug sales.
