Anti-drug officers in Mauritius arrested a 30-year-old cook on Tuesday 3 November after a search of her home in Cité-La-Cure uncovered cannabis and a large sum of cash believed to be linked to drug sales.

Officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit, known as the ADSU, carried out the raid at the woman's residence in Cité-La-Cure, a residential neighbourhood in Mauritius. During the search, they found a transparent plastic bag containing 25.33 grams of cannabis.

Investigators also seized Rs 260,875 in cash, which they suspect represents proceeds from the sale of narcotics. The combined find prompted the woman's immediate arrest and she was placed in police custody.

The ADSU is a specialist unit within the Mauritius Police Force dedicated to investigating drug trafficking and smuggling offences. Searches of this kind are typically carried out on the basis of intelligence gathered over a period of time.

The amount of cash recovered, equivalent to roughly 5,500 US dollars, is considered significant relative to the quantity of cannabis found, which investigators say suggests ongoing retail-level drug activity in the area.

The suspect has not been formally charged at the time of reporting. Police confirmed that the investigation is continuing, and further arrests have not been ruled out.

Cité-La-Cure has been the focus of periodic ADSU operations in recent years as authorities maintain pressure on street-level drug distribution networks across the island.
