Three people have lost their lives on Mauritius roads in the space of just three days, in a grim series of accidents that has also left around fifteen others injured — including schoolchildren.
**Friday, 26 September — St-Malo, Baie-du-Tombeau**
The first fatality occurred when a motorcyclist lost control of his bike and slammed into the wall of a house in St-Malo, a coastal area in the Baie-du-Tombeau district on the northwest outskirts of Port Louis. He died at the scene.
**Saturday, 27 September — Pamplemousses**
The following day, a second motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a van on the main road through Pamplemousses, a town in the north of the island best known for the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. Road conditions and the cause of the collision are still under investigation.
**Sunday, 28 September — Laventure**
The third and most serious accident — in terms of the number of people affected — happened on the morning of 28 September in Laventure, a locality in the northeast of Mauritius. A truck and a CNT bus collided, killing the truck driver, who succumbed to his injuries. Around fifteen people were wounded, among them students who were trapped inside the bus after the impact. All injured were transported to the Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ) Hospital, the main public hospital serving the north and east of the island.
The CNT — Centrale des Transports — is a government-operated bus company that provides public transport services across Mauritius.
**Investigations Under Way**
Police have opened inquiries into all three accidents to establish the exact circumstances and determine whether speed, negligence, road conditions, or other factors were responsible.

Road safety remains a serious public concern in Mauritius.
