Selven Iyempermal Murder: Wesley Fidèle Assists MCIT Investigators

Wesley Fidèle presented himself to the Major Crime Investigation Team, known as the MCIT, on Friday 6 November as part of the ongoing murder investigation into the death of Selven Iyempermal.

Iyempermal was killed on 28 October at La Caverne, a locality in the Plaines Wilhems district in the centre of Mauritius. The circumstances of his death have prompted a formal criminal inquiry led by the MCIT, the specialised unit of the Mauritius Police Force that handles serious and complex crimes.

When he arrived at MCIT premises, Wesley Fidèle was accompanied by his lawyer, Me Assad Peeroo. During the session with investigators, Fidèle reportedly identified his brothers in a video recording that shows violent acts taking place before the fatal incident. This video is understood to form part of the evidence being examined by investigators.

The MCIT typically calls witnesses and persons of interest to assist with inquiries before deciding whether to proceed with formal charges. Attending with legal counsel is standard practice in such circumstances in Mauritius.

The killing of Selven Iyempermal has drawn attention given the nature of the violence involved and the footage that has emerged in connection with the case. Investigators are working to establish the full sequence of events leading up to and surrounding his death.
