Ramayana Part 1 Breaks Box Office Records With Rs 3.75bn Opening
Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1 starring Ranbir Kapoor grossed 375.50 crore rupees worldwide in its first three days, setting a new daily record on day three.
The long-awaited Bollywood epic Ramayana: Part 1 has stormed the global box office, earning an estimated 375.50 crore Indian rupees (approximately 3.75 billion Indian rupees) worldwide in its first three days of release, according to film analytics website Sacnilk.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, best known internationally for Dangal, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role of Ram, alongside Sai Pallavi and Kannada superstar Yash. It is based on the ancient Hindu epic the Ramayana, one of the most celebrated stories across India and the Indian diaspora worldwide, including in Mauritius where the story holds deep cultural significance.
After a slight dip on its second day, the film bounced back strongly on Saturday 7 November, recording its best single-day performance in India to date. Net earnings in India on day three reached 69.80 crore rupees, a jump of 45.3 percent compared to the 48.05 crore rupees collected on Friday. Gross earnings in India for Saturday alone stood at 83.45 crore rupees.
The three-day net total in India has now reached 182.70 crore rupees. In Indian cinema reporting, figures are typically expressed in crores, where one crore equals ten million. So 182.70 crore rupees translates to roughly 1.83 billion Indian rupees from the Indian market alone.
The film's global gross for day three reached approximately 182.7 crore rupees, bringing the cumulative worldwide total to 375.50 crore rupees across all markets including North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Southeast Asia, regions with large Indian diaspora communities.
The Ramayana story is particularly resonant in Mauritius, where around 48 percent of the population is of Indian heritage and Hindu festivals such as Divali and Maha Shivaratri are national public holidays. Films rooted in Hindu mythology consistently draw strong audiences in the country.
The film's commercial momentum mirrors the reception of other large-scale Bollywood mythological productions in recent years, a genre that has seen significant investment as Indian studios compete with Hollywood spectacles for global audiences.
No official Mauritius box office figures were included in the data reported by Sacnilk, but the film's wide international rollout suggests it is screening in Mauritian cinemas as part of its global release.
