Man Stabbed in Rose-Belle After Refusing to Hand Over Cash

A man was stabbed in Rose-Belle, a town in the south-east of Mauritius, after he refused to hand over money to an individual who confronted him.

According to initial reports, the victim was approached by a man who demanded cash from him. When he declined, the aggressor produced a blade and stabbed him. The victim sustained stab wounds as a result of the attack.

Police were called to the scene and an investigation has been opened. The circumstances of the incident, including whether the attacker was known to the victim, are being established by investigators.

Rose-Belle is a busy market town in the Grand Port district, located roughly 30 kilometres south-east of Port Louis, the capital. It serves as a commercial hub for the surrounding region.

This incident adds to a pattern of street violence reported across Mauritius in recent months, with robberies and assaults occurring in both urban and semi-rural areas. Analysts and community leaders have pointed to economic pressure and social inequality as contributing factors to rising street crime on the island.

The Mauritius Police Force has not yet confirmed whether an arrest has been made in connection with this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact their nearest police station.
