Emirates adds Premium Economy to Mauritius route

Emirates is set to elevate the travel experience between Mauritius and Dubai, introducing its Premium Economy cabin on both of its daily flights connecting the two destinations from 1 September. The move marks a significant upgrade for the Mauritius–Dubai corridor, one of the busiest long-haul routes serving the island. Until now, passengers on this route have been limited to Economy and Business Class options. The addition of Premium Economy fills a long-standing gap for mid-range travellers — those seeking more comfort than a standard Economy seat but unwilling or unable to stretch to full Business Class fares. Premium Economy on Emirates typically offers wider seats with greater recline, enhanced meal service, additional baggage allowance, and priority boarding — amenities that have proved popular on other Emirates routes worldwide since the cabin's debut. For Mauritius, the timing is noteworthy. The island's tourism sector has been pushing hard to attract higher-spending visitors, and improved cabin options on a key feeder route from the Gulf could help draw a new segment of travellers — particularly transit passengers from Europe and Asia who connect through Dubai's international hub. Dubai International Airport remains one of the world's busiest transit points, making the Emirates connection strategically vital for Mauritius's inbound tourism numbers. From a business travel perspective, the Premium Economy option could also appeal to corporate travellers and the growing diaspora community linking Mauritius with the UAE, offering a more affordable alternative to Business Class on what is typically a four-hour flight.
