Élodie Thomas, the Mauritian woman who was shot in Camp-Levieux on 9 October, is set to leave hospital on 6 November after nearly four weeks of treatment, according to Health and Wellness Minister Anil Bachoo.

The minister made the announcement on the afternoon of 5 November, following a visit to Élodie Thomas at the ENT Hospital, the main public referral hospital in Mauritius, located in Vacoas. He said she is in very good health and has recovered to almost 100 percent.

Thomas was critically injured in the shooting incident at Camp-Levieux, a locality in the east of Mauritius. The severity of her injuries required specialist intervention from abroad. On 12 October, a team of specialist surgeons who had travelled from India performed the operation. Her condition began to improve steadily in the days that followed.

After 27 days in hospital, she will now be able to return home and reunite with her family.

The case drew significant public attention in Mauritius when it first emerged, with many following developments around her medical condition closely. The involvement of an Indian medical team underlined the seriousness of her injuries and the limits of what could be handled locally at the time.

No further details about the circumstances of the shooting or any related legal proceedings were provided in the minister's statement.
